DJI Phantom 3 Firmware Update
If you are confused by the instructions from DJI on how to update the DJI Phantom 3 Firmware I just figured it out and I wanted to share a few tips. This video helped.
- Download the Firmware Update to your computer.
- Navigate to where the file has downloaded.
- Unzip the file. (On a Mac, just double click it.)
- Remove the SD card from the Phantom 3
- Insert it in your SD card reader attached to your computer.
- Drag the .bin file to the SD card root directory. (not in a folder).
- Eject it and place it back in the Phantom 3
- Turn on the Phantom 3. You will hear beep beep beep beep (D-D-D-D) for a while (15-25 minutes)
- When it is completed it will sound like beep..(wait)…. beep beep (D…D-D).
- While this is happening take the same .bin file from the download and put it in the root directory of a flash drive.
- Eject it and attach the flash drive to the USB port on the Phantom 3 remote controller.
- Once the aircraft is completed, turn it off.
- Turn on the RC unit. You will see a solid green and then after a minute or so you will hear a sound and then a BLUE light. At this point you should turn on the aircraft and wait.
- When the RC unit update is completed the light will turn green.
- Unplug the USB and plug in your iPhone/tablet. Open the UPDATED DJI app.
- Go to Camera and you are good to go!
Questions I still have on August 4th, 2015 …
- Why is there no “simulator” for the DJI Phantom 3? This was promised in the lead-up to launch hype.
- The advertising was a bit mis-leading regarding “Follow Me”, “Ground Station”, and “Point of Interest”. These are NOT features of the Phantom 3, but developers are encouraged to produce apps that allow this sort of thing. I’m no app developer, but I WANT IT ALL! 🙂
